What to Wear

So, you've picked your date, chosen your location and booked your session, now the big decision...WHAT DO WE WEAR? My advice, be yourself. If you're relaxed and confident, it will show in your portraits. Simple patterns and bold colors are always a good choice, they not only look great in person, but they photograph beautifully. Avoid logos, really busy patterns and character-wear. We want your portraits to be timeless and for the focus to be on the faces, not your little one's Lightning McQueen tee shirt. Pick clothing that fits nicely, without folding or creasing and be sure to dress for full-length shots, taking special care that socks and shoes match and are in good shape. Bare feet, especially for children, are also more than welcome.

We've all seen the family portraits where everyone is wearing a white/black/navy top with khakis, and those are fine choices, but do they really reflect who you all are? Try putting together a look for your family as if you were creating one single outfit. Does your daughter have a print dress that you just love? Great! Select the rest of your family's clothing from colors within the pattern of that dress. Coordinated but not "uniform" clothing creates much more pleasing images and can truly tell the story of your family.

Here are a couple of examples of coordinated looks for families and siblings. Layers and textures can add an extra punch to your photos, so look for scarves, jackets, hats, leggings, and even fun jewelry to complete your look.
